Studying with Christie’s Education online is designed with ease of use in mind. Courses are available anywhere in the world that you can connect to the internet, on a desktop, laptop, tablet or phone. We use the platform of choice for universities around the world to host our courses: Canvas has been developed to guide you to success. The platform is intuitive to navigate and enables you not only to study at your own pace, but also to engage freely with your tutor and fellow students. Canvas streams courses directly to your web browser of choice, and does not require additional software or downloads.
All our online courses, with the exception of Inside the Global Contemporary Art World, are 100% video-based. This means that we have filmed our courses with the same production values as a documentary, bringing you closer to both the presenter and the fine details of the art you want to study. With rich content, expert scripts and exclusive insight, we believe Christie’s Education courses the most enriching you will study online.
Accompanying online courses are a variety of tutor notes, transcripts, further readings and timely links, depending on the course. Your tutor will guide you through the self-study, and assist you in learning to learn online if required.
Courses run for five or six weeks. The Canvas platform will open for your orientation one week before the course is due to start. This gives you an opportunity to familiarise yourself with the platform, meet your tutor, and get to know your fellow students. Once the course opens, new modules are opened on a weekly basis, and they remain open until three weeks after the course has closed, enabling you to refer back to your studies at any point during this time.
You are in complete control of your online studies. Video lectures allow you to pause and re-watch any part of the course, and you can contact your tutor at any point for further clarification. Being able to learn at your own pace, repeating material as required, gives you the control you require to succeed in your learning goals.
Assessments are optional, and can take the form of short written assignments or quizzes. Assignments are set weekly, and you have one week to complete them.
Self-learning can prove daunting, so we provide the resources required to help you meet your objectives. In order to get the most out of your learning experience, you should be prepared to give sufficient time to your online studies. Students often watch their lectures three or more times in their entirety to ensure they have retained the material, and you should be prepared to return to the course multiple times a week.
The most important aspect of self-motivated study is the willingness to ask for help. Your tutor and the Christie’s Education team are available to guide you in your understanding of the course material, and also to assist in enabling you to learn the technologies required to study online.
