This autumn, 32 students from the MSc in Art, Law and Business programme in London were placed in various departments across Christie’s, ranging from Decorative Arts and Post-War & Contemporary Art to Client Advisory and Legal. The work placement offers them the opportunity to utilise all of the knowledge and skills they have acquired over the course of the programme in a professional setting.
Carlin Smith (in the image above) spent six weeks with Christie’s Press team: “The department is comprised of a group of amazing women who have each taken the time to personally introduce me to the various components necessary to run a successful press office. I am confident in saying that I have learned a multitude of skills that will be of great assistance in any career path that lies ahead.”
Emory Conetta developed key professional skills while undertaking an independent project in the Proposals department: “I also gained a stronger appreciation for teamwork. This department is entirely dependent on collaboration between writers, designers, specialist departments, etc. to achieve a common goal. It was encouraging to see all team members unify to produce polished and creative results.”
Christie’s Education not only provides students with direct access to the auction house and its specialists, but also connects them to a wider art world network with alumni, professionals and advisors at the forefront of the industry. “Our students experience first-hand the inner workings of an auction house and learn from our wonderful teams and experts. The work placement is a fully integrated component of our master’s programmes which provides students with valuable experience which they can take forward into their careers following graduation,” commented Daniel Elliott, Career Services Officer at Christie’s Education London.
The master’s programmes are further enhanced by a rigorous Professional Development Programme specifically designed to prepare students for entry into the competitive art world job market. Approximately 90% of Christie’s Education graduates then progress to a commercial career.
Applications for the academic year 2020-2021 are now open in both London and New York.
