Overview

Due to popular demand of the first session we have added a new session for this course, starting February 9

Since its invention, artists have experimented with the endless possibilities of the medium of photography to challenge our conceptions of art, and to record and transform our reality. Photography remains more relevant than ever to our contemporary world, and is one of the most exciting collecting categories today. While it is important to collect what you love, informed buying of photography requires an understanding of both the medium and the marketplace. This 5-session series, ‘Navigating the Photography Market’ will educate novice and experienced collectors on the fundamental issues to consider when collecting photography. Topics will include vintage prints, edition sizes, condition, as well as the navigation of the primary and secondary marketplace. Photography collector and advisor, Alice Zimet, will lead conversations with photography dealers and collectors, and give participants an inside-view of today’s thriving world of art photography.

Session #2: Thoughts Before You Spend a Penny / Questions to Ask When Shopping for a Photograph

Session #3: The Marketplace

Session #5: Virtual Gallery Visits
