Overview

Public sculpture has recently been the locus of political and social debate in the United States. This course will examine these controversies and explore responses by contemporary artists today. Dealing with both private and public art, lectures will examine the medium, the context and the cultural significance of contemporary sculptors working today.

Academic Profile

Academic Profile

Sara Weintraub is a scholar of modern and contemporary art with a focus on public art. She received her Ph.D. from the Graduate Center, CUNY, where she was awarded research and teaching fellowships. She has taught courses on modern and contemporary art in the MA Program at Christie’s Education, Macaulay Honors College, CUNY, and City College, CUNY.
