“Receiving the scholarship is an important step in my career, which is steered towards creating social and economic equality in the commercial art market for young black artists and art professionals.”

“The Christie’s Education BAME scholarship has presented me with an incredible opportunity to return to study much earlier than expected and finally realise my dream of working in the arts and cultural sector, all while promoting diversity”

The Christie’s Education Trust in conjunction with Christie’s Education London is offering a full scholarship for ONE student of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (“BAME”) descent on each of the following UK master’s programmes:
MSc Art, Law & Business (academic year commencing September 2020)
MA History of Art and Art World Practice (academic year commencing September 2020)
Participation in art studies and the creative industries in the UK by individuals who are of black, Asian and non-white minority ethnic descent is disproportionately low and with these two scholarships Christie’s Education wishes to play its part in making learning and employment opportunities in the art world more accessible to BAME students.
Individuals must satisfy certain criteria to be eligible for the joint scholarship, and eligible applicants will be assessed on the basis of academic merit, financial need and other considerations.
What will the scholarship cover?
The selected student on each programme will receive a scholarship that covers the full cost of their tuition fees:
- Christie’s Education Ltd. will waive the full tuition fees for the relevant programme. The tuition fees for the academic year commencing September 2020 for each programme are £37,000. Please note: No cash sum equivalent will be payable direct to the student.
Christie’s Education understands that tuition fee payments and living expenses awards for students in full time education at a recognised university, college or school are not currently considered earnings by HMRC and would therefore not be subject to income tax or national insurance contributions. However, applicants should be aware that this position is open to review by HMRC at any time, and all applicants remain responsible for monitoring their own tax position and tax liability.
Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to be considered for either of these two joint scholarships, a student must:
a) meet the entry requirements (for example, in terms of academic qualifications, English language skills, references) and be offered a place on the relevant master’s programme.

The Trust will consider a range of factors in deciding to whom to award the scholarships, which could include but is not limited to: an intention to study full time, previous merit based awards or prizes, previous record of financial aid to support undergraduate studies, whether the candidate is the first person in immediate family to study at master’s level, evidence of activities intended to promote diversity and inclusion especially in the arts.
