Ongoing Research
Research into new materialism and spatial theory as frameworks for considering ways artists respond to place/environment, builds on specialism in the art and context of Cornwall/St Ives, working with artist/photographer and film-maker Andy Hughes and Dominica Williamson.
Research on Nadia Friedlander, a German-Jewish émigré artist, investigating paintings and drawings in a private collection. As niece of Max J. Friedlander, studying the relationship between Nadia’s figurative work and Friedlander’s studies of Netherlandish art especially his interest in symbolism/iconology, considering the context of war/anti-semitic persecution/Jewish identity. Also using Tate archive on the artist Ithel Colquhoun who shared similar occult interests and social circles. Possible exhibition.
