Behind the Curtain: Jewellery and Watchmaking Houses
This course introduces the jewellery maisons and watchmakers whose masterpieces, from the 19th centuries to present, pushed artistic boundaries, achieved new technological heights, adorned kings and queens, and command auction records.Led by Geneva-based jewellery historian Vanessa Cron and watch expert Antoine Géraud, we will reveal the storied histories of the most famous luxury brands. Each lecture covers a single house, and examines its iconic designs, ground-breaking innovations and affiliation with royal and taste-making patrons. Speaking also on its history, evolution of brand, style, and focus, participants will get to know the visionaries behind these time-honoured institutions, their creative processes, and their contribution to the world of luxury, encompassing beauty, science and culture.
Collectors and aficionados of high jewelleries and timepieces will be able to take a connoisseur’s look at the hallmarks of the most sought-after gems of luxury, from material and craft, to technology and design. They will also gain a 360-degree overview of the household brands who have stood the test of time, from the historical milestones that anchored their prestige, to modern and contemporary innovation and brand-building today.
Participants may participate the full programme, a single theme of jewellery or watches, or any selection of single session(s) in the programme.
