London Art Course

Drawing on Christie’s Education’s long experience of object-based teaching, the London Art Course combines lectures with visits to London's outstanding art collections and exhibitions. Choose from either Art, style and design or Modern and Contemporary Art.

You will attend an illustrated lecture in the morning, reconvening in the afternoon for a site visit in London. The course can be taken as three successive terms or on a modular basis.

The London Art Course accepts a maximum of 20 people. To avoid disappointment, we strongly advise early booking on all terms you are interested in attending.

The course is an ideal taster for the more intensive Certificate and Master’s options offered by Christie’s Education.

London Art Course: Art, Style and Design

Running one day a week during term time, this course is suitable for anyone wanting an introductory insight into the world of the fine and decorative arts. Drawing on Christie’s Education long experience of object-based teaching, the programme combines lectures with visits to London’s outstanding art collections and exhibitions. There will be opportunities to learn about the materials and techniques used to fashion fine and decorative arts objects in a range of media including painting, sculpture, furniture, ceramics, glass and metalawork.  Over the three terms, in a chronological sequence, it will also be possible to dip into a range of stylistic periods  significant in the history of western art and design from the Renaissance to the middle of the twentieth century. The development of basic skills and abilities enhancing enjoyment of the arts in London is a fundamental aim of the course and the format is ideally suited to those with limited time wanting to make the most of the capital’s rich resources.

Participants attend an illustrated talk in the morning, reconvening in the afternoon for a site visit in London.

The course can be taken as three successive terms and a discount of 10% is offered for those choosing this option.  The course can also be taken on a modular basis.

London Art Course: Modern and Contemporary Art

Running each Wednesday during term time, this course introduces the ideas, aims, materials and techniques of modern art from 1900 right up to the art being made today. Drawing on Christie’s Education long experience of object-based teaching, the programme combines lectures with visits to London’s outstanding art collections and exhibitions. The course will consider and discuss some of the most significant concepts that have shaped 20th century art and how artists’ have worked in diverse media including painting, sculpture, photography, printing, film, installation performance and design. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the contemporary art world and the factors that shape its evolution. The development of basic skills and abilities enhancing enjoyment of the arts in London is a afundamental aim of the course and the format is ideally suited t those with limited time wanting to make the most of the Capital’s rich resources. Participants attend an illustrated lecture in the morning, reconvening in the afternoon for a site visit in London. It is advisable to take the course as three successive terms to acquire a broader knowledge, but it is possible to join on a modular basis. A discount of 10% is vailable for those booking all three terms at the beginning. The London Art Course accepts a strict maximum of 20 people. To avoid disappointment, we strongly advise early booking on all terms you are interested in attending.
