The Christie's Art Business Course


The Christie’s Art Business Course is designed for both art world professionals and newcomers wishing to gain an in depth knowledge of all aspects of the art market. It will provide you with the wherewithal needed to enter the market including up-to-date information and new analytical methods for those already in the business.

The course is modular so that you can choose which areas to study with the modules designed to complement one another for a complete view of the industry. Each module is made up of three evening sessions running weekly on Tuesdays.

Valuation/Art Appraisal

Collecting & Dealing in Art

Auction Business

Museums & the Art Market

 

In each lecture, following an introduction by the course leader, guest lecturers, who are leaders in their field, provide a thorough insight into an area of the art world before further discussion.

There are no specific educational requirements for the course. To receive a Christie's Foundation Certificate in Art Business four modules and an essay must be completed and passed. By completing all seven modules and a further essay you will receive a Christie's Advanced Certificate in Art Business.

 

Who teaches the Course?

 

James Goodwin MA, MBA is the Course Leader of the Christie's Art Business Course. James also lectures on the art market at Maastricht University and Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands, EuroMed Management and HEC, France, University Ca' Foscari of Venice, Italy and City University and Kingston University in the UK. His research and writing has appeared in The Economist, the Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal and has been broadcast on BBC TV and Radio, and CNN. His book, The International Art Markets – The Essential Guide for Collectors and Investors includes 42 country art market chapters and was published in in English in July 2008 and in Chinese in June 2010.

The course has a range of guest lecturers including journalists, lawyers, economists, archivists, marketing managers and valuers from a range of well known businesses within the art business world.

Fees must be paid in full at the time of enrolment. Enrolment is on a strictly first come first served basis. Should any student who has enrolled on a course find that they need to withdraw the notice period is as follows:

28 days or less before the start of the course:
Withdrawal: No refund
