The core lecture series, covering material from Antiquity to the Renaissance, and delivered by both Christie’s faculty and outside experts, underpins all components of the programme. Our study trips are an integral part of this course. These take you to a number of major sites and museums in the UK, while two longer trips are made to European centres, one of which is usually Rome. This will allow you to experience the art and architecture of Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance at the centres of its production. Culture and Ideology Seminars will teach you the importance of iconography, patronage and artistic context of Early European works of art. In these seminars you will develop the skills to deliver presentations and generate seminar discussion
Object-based study is the foundation of our teaching and will provide you with relevant training for the public and commercial art worlds. This includes practical and research-based study of materials and techniques, style, dating, quality and authenticity. You will be trained in cataloguing to auction house and museum standards. Handling sessions and visits to museums and to Christie’s warehouses form an essential part of the course. Engagement with current debates about curatorial practice will enable you to devise fresh approaches to the display and interpretation of art works. You will learn how to produce reports on works of art to a professional standard. You will explore varieties of art criticism, developing skills to review exhibitions. Methodology seminars equip you with the theoretical tools for the analyses of works of art, and introduce you to major texts relating to cultural history and aesthetics.
The thesis, produced at the end of the year, presents an opportunity to create an exhibition catalogue around a small group of objects, independently researched, representing a synthesis of the key academic and professional skills learned on the programme.

Applicants whose first language is not English and have not been enrolled in a degree programme in the UK, USA or other English-speaking country for two continuous years must have IELTS 7 or the equivalent
Qualified applicants to Christie’s Education are invited to attend an interview with a member of the faculty. We are keen to ensure that applicants' needs and expectations are fully discussed, and that the path we offer is the most suitable one for them. Interviews normally last about 45 minutes. During the course of the interview, applicants will be asked to respond to a selection of images. The interviewer will assess the applicant’s ability to engage in conversation around works of art.
One of the most important resources at Christie’s Education is the wealth of art works that pass through the salerooms on a regular basis. The school has its own Learning Resources Centre, with a computer room, handling collection, print collection and library. Students are also provided with borrowing rights at Senate House Library, University of London, and have access to the electronic resources of the University of Glasgow Library. The British Library is within walking distance.
Christie’s Education works closely with the Christie’s Human Resources Department to inform students of the opportunities available within the company. These include work experience placements in specialist and other departments throughout the academic year, application to paid graduate internships in London upon completion of programme requirements, and one-on-one consultations with Human Resources staff.
Master's students can also apply for two Christie's Education internships at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection
in Venice, Italy, to commence in September.
Designed to develop awareness of career opportunities and strategies, Professional Development
sessions invite speakers who offer profiles of their jobs, career pathways and work experiences. Direct contact with these speakers encourages students to develop professional networks in the commercial art world, museums, education, marketing, law, insurance and publishing.

All fees include study trips in UK and Abroad unless otherwise stated. A non-refundable deposit of £500 is payable within one month of being offered a place on Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes as well as the part-time courses. The balance of the fee is payable six weeks prior to the commencement of the first term. Payment may be made by bank transfer, cheque or credit card (Visa or MasterCard). Christie’s Education faculty consists of academics offering a wide range of experience and specialisation. Each student is assigned a personal tutor at the beginning of the year who will guide their academic progress and is responsible for advice and support throughout their course of studies.
